In these graphics, bin Laden's shortcomings are happily trumpeted.
This parody refers to a tradition in American culture of the high school yearbook. Osama bin Laden is presented as the stereotype "geek" or "nerd" with eyeglasses, goofy facial expression and big, homely teeth. The artist has committed a factual error, having bin Laden graduating from "Kabul" High School, when in fact he was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. Another aspect is another Middle Eastern reference/stereotype, with his "Camel Breath" nickname. |
Carrying the title "Bin Laden Found!" this image of the terrorist leader as a 7-11 clerk says two things -- (1) he now has a menial job, and (2) expresses a stereotype of recent immigrants as being numerous in such low-paying jobs (Arab man running a convenience store). |
Though this graphic also represents a reference to other, previous popular culture, it also portrays bin Laden as stupid and writing books for other morons. The image is a takeoff of the popular "So and So for Dummies" beginners' book published by Hungry Minds, Inc, which originally began with computer titles and expanded to numerous other subjects. There are additional insults both blatant ("noted pederast," which is someone who likes sex with boys), and subtle (BS is "bachelor of science," but here means "bullshit"). |
